BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department on Wednesday asked registrars of public universities and principals of degree colleges coming under this department to start online teaching from July 13 for students of intermediary year or semester.

Higher education department secretary Saswat Mishra in an official letter said these higher educational institutions (HEIs) should issue books from their library. “Every HEIs must run a help-line through their teachers to frequently contact students telephonically to counsel them in these difficult times and also meet their queries regarding various matters such as online teaching, examinations, projects, assignments and scholarships,” he added.

Mishra in the letter stated that HEIs are required to complete evaluation/alternative evaluation of final year/semester students to publish the results by August 31. The letter stated that HEIs coming under the higher education department should carry out their official work (excluding teaching in physical classroom and running of hostels) with 50 per cent employee strength from July 1 to August 31.

The head of HEIs shall decide the roster arrangement of all teachers, officers and non-teaching staff to ensure that only 50 per cent of employees attend office/duty on any given duty. The employees, who are not required to attend office on a given day according to the roster arrangement, should remain accessible on telephone at all time and shall be ready to come to the HEI at short notice, said the government notice.
